I really like Nebraska. But only 10 months out of the year. Oy. I'm cold, it's hard to write about flowers, greenery and springtime loves when there's 7 inches of snow on the ground...but here's to trying.
My favorite thing about my house right now is an old bench that has been in mom's family for a hundred years (maybe more, maybe less). We call it Peter Round's bench because a man named Peter Round made the bench for a grandparent of greatness somewhere in the past. It's a simple, straightforward piece of furniture and it is the best bench ever. It currently sits under a window in my kitchen with 2 orchids, a varigated heather plant, a small Jade tree, a watch plant, a tree Begonia, an enormous Hibiscus that is trying really hard to over-winter for the 10th year, and several succulents from my sister's back porch that I wouldn't allow to die. While trying to keep plants that generally live outside in the summer alive inside in the winter is a challenge, it is also quite rewarding. I had a bloom on the Hibi last week, and the begonia is growing beautifully. Four more months and spring will have sprung, the hibi will no longer be impeding my walkway to the basement, the succulents will be back to my sister's porch and Peter Rounds bench will take on another job...4 more months. Just 4 more months til spring. I can do it. I think.
Please forgive me for no photograph, I can't find the charger for my camera. I think I left my brain in October.
